What do you do that is different from most clinics?
Walter Geursen, your primary physiotherapist, was 5 yrs on a multi-discipline concussion team. He only treats persons with concussion, brain injuries, vestibular disorders and migraine as a result. He is also the only clinical practitioner in NZ trained to do the Atlas Balancing technique re-positioning the atlas bone at the top of the head which is a key factor in his treatment approach to head and neck pain. It is a no-force or pressure technique and it is not cranial sacral.

He is also a Level 3 Watson Headache Approach practitioner trained to carry out brainstem desensitisation, the newest and latest technique in reducing head pain of most types including migraine and concussion.

We use a range of techniques that stimulate the body to heal itself, all painless all with our hands and your assistance; techniques from conventional massage or manual therapy and exercises for muscle/soft tissue release and balancing. We also use systems that balance the bio electric systems also called the energetic systems which help drive the healing processes in the body. The Bowen system is one such system that restores normal function in the body.  These systems are used as stand alone treatments as they target different healing processes.  Dysfunction in any of these systems can be the underlying cause of the muscle joint or head pain you may have.

We also use the plethysmograph, a three minute test using your finger pulse to get a
comprehensive readout of your heart rate, arterial flow, autonomic nervous system parameters, stress levels etc. giving key feedback information for assessing when a person can return to work and general exercise after concussion.
What rights do I have during the physiotherapy visit?
The physiotherapist will explain the diagnosis and discuss treatment options and their effects. You have the right to refuse part or all of the treatment that is offered to you.

You have the right to a second opinion.  Please discuss this with your physiotherapist or doctor.  We will be happy to arrange this for you.  We encourage family members to be present when we are treating children under 16 years of age.  You also have the right to have an interpreter at your expense if needed.

All information recorded in your health records will be kept confidential.  Under the Privacy Act, you have the right of access to, and correction of, your personal information held by us.  No information will be given to a third party without your written permission.

We are committed to providing you with the best service possible. Your feedback is always welcome.  If you or your family has any concerns it is best to talk things over with us, whenever possible.  If the problem is not resolved, you can write to us or telephone the Health & Disability Commissioner’s office on 0800 11 22 33.

Do I need a referral from a GP for treatment?
You do not require a referral from a GP.  For conditions not covered by ACC but funded by public health, a referral from a hospital or doctor is essential. We will fill out an ACC claim form with your input in our clinic and will handle all the administration.
Do you have wheelchair access?
Yes, there is access for clients with reduced mobility or wheelchair requirements.
IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE?
There is street parking in just past the driveway.
